How it starts:
The project began with the brand’s goal to foster a stronger creator community on its YouTube channel. To achieve this, we launched a series of professional “video essay” episodes explaining key filmmaking terms and techniques. As the lead for all new series across the channel, I drafted the script for this episode, drawing inspiration from the storytelling style of the StudioBinder YouTube channel.
The process:
Since it was our first time producing longer-form content, I structured the script to be clear, engaging, and beginner-friendly, making it easy for both the host and audience to follow. I also introduced Django Unchained as the main visual and narrative hook to help capture audience attention — an essential move for a growing channel still building its subscriber base.
In addition, we experimented with several “firsts,” including running an A/B test for the thumbnail to explore the most effective visual direction for the series. Each step provided valuable insights into how we could evolve the channel’s creative and strategic approach.
The result:
The project was a great experience in exploring new formats and testing creative strategies. It helped strengthen the team’s understanding of what engages viewers on long-form content and set the groundwork for future creator-focused educational videos on the channel.
